Convocation is about celebrating. it’s exciting. it’s intense. it’s surreal. it’s the start of a student’s life as he/she enters the important world. Graduation brings back an equivalent butterflies within the stomach one probably felt together entered university for the primary time.
This year, the 32nd Convocation at LUMS, planned for 25th July, marks a big milestone, because it is that the first celebration within the history of the University to be hosted virtually. albeit the colorful parade of ensemble remains amiss, this commencement, little question may be a celebration of the spirit and joy in reaching and recognizing a milestone achievement within the lives of the graduating batch.
The happiness, the joys , the elation may be a natural feeling for all graduates also because the faculty, parents and LUMS leadership at this point and therefore the virtual ceremony encompasses all.
This ceremony may be a tribute to the diligence and dedication of the category of 2020, as they take their next step into the sensible world and strive to contribute to the community and therefore the world at large. LUMS has always been a community driven to realize , lead and succeed — and most significantly to be there for every other.
As the leadership continues to share messages about how proud they’re of the class , the very fact that this is often a singular class can’t be ignored. Within a week’s time, this class had to find out to transition all their work online and take up the challenge to submit assignments and sit for his or her exams virtually. Connectivity problems, studying in cramped rooms, and constant distractions reception were just a couple of things that they had to regulate to very quickly.
Even before they graduated, they need exemplified the way to suits the new normal and continued not only to finish their degree but also extend support to the broader community amid COVID-19 crisis.
Since early March, LUMS students and graduates are busy helping mitigate the impact of COVID-19. Sarim Raza – this year’s graduate – ran a ration drive for daily wage workers. On the scientific front, Nayyer Ali, also from the category of 2020, worked with a PhD student at the varsity of Science and Engineering to form a crucial contribution to finding a possible cure for COVID-19. This Convocation celebrates and pays tribute to those and lots of more success stories.
Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who has risen to vary the face of female education completed her degree at University of Oxford this year. Our graduates will stand tall with this Nobel Peace lottery winner , as they need also worked against many odds to receive their degrees. it’s thus an honour that she is going to not only share her celebratory feelings with the LUMS graduates but also insights on handling the challenges that await them as they transition to subsequent stage in life.
While we all await the chance to celebrate face to face , with the pandemic finally behind us, we encourage our graduates to face these unprecedented times with a spirit of conscientiousness, innovation and excellence. the planet needs leaders who embrace and embody these words, now quite ever.
For now, because the University receives messages from graduates with their caps and smiling victorious faces, the sensation of celebration doubles. regardless of what the circumstances, regardless of where they’re , who they celebrate with, the very fact is that every graduate may be a winner and that we all are together in spirit to celebrate Convocation 2020.
