British actor Idris Elba is ready to receive the Bafta Special Award – one among the very best honors of the academy. The award which can be in recognition of his contribution to television and bringing diversity to the screen are going to be given at this month’s ceremony of British Academy Television Awards.
“I thank Bafta for recognising myself et al. who are dedicated to an equivalent cause, as these are all necessary steps towards helping to shift the notice and understanding of the range gap in entertainment,” the 47-year old actor said as he called receiving the award ‘a great privilege’.
“It’s been a mission of mine to supply opportunity and access to emerging talent from diverse backgrounds during this industry, which is that the same opportunity I received a few years ago from open-minded and diversity-conscious casting,” Elba added.
Previously Bafta special award has been given to John Motson, comedian Sir Lenny Henry and presenter Cilla Black.
